Do you accept pets?
At the moment we do not accept pets in either house. We know that is disappointing if you travel with one, which is why we would rather say so clearly before you book than have it be a surprise on arrival.
Does the Small House have separate bedrooms?
No, and it is worth knowing before you book: the Small House is an open-plan space of about 30 m². In a single room, with no dividing walls, you have the sitting area, the sleeping area with a double bed and the kitchenette. The bathroom is the only closed room. It is a simple retreat for two, not a hotel room. If you want closed bedrooms and a full kitchen, choose the Main House.
Do you rent by the month?
Yes, in two ways. By the month, from October to May, with water, electricity and internet included, for up to six people. Or on a longer agreement of three, six, nine or twelve months, for remote workers and for companies. In both cases it is a rental agreement, not a holiday stay. Tell us the dates you need and we will come back with the right terms.
Is there a pool? Is it private?
Yes. Casa das Mouriscas has an outdoor pool, filled with water from the well and always cool, with sun loungers all around. It is for the exclusive use of guests staying at the house.
How far are the river beaches?
A few minutes by car. The river beaches of Aldeia do Mato and Fontes (on the Zêzere) and Alamal (on the Tagus) are the closest, several with Blue Flag status, ideal for a summer swim.
How do I get to Casa das Mouriscas?
It is at Casal da Igreja, in Mouriscas, in the municipality of Abrantes, about 13 minutes from the centre of Abrantes. On some booking sites the house is listed under Alvega, the neighbouring parish. From Lisbon it is around 1.5 hours via the A23. The exact address and coordinates are sent with your booking confirmation.
Is the internet good enough to work?
Yes. The Wi-Fi is free and we measured at least 20 Mbps download at peak time, in the early evening. That is comfortably enough for video calls and remote work: a video meeting uses 2 to 4 Mbps. It is usually faster than that, but we would rather quote the lowest figure we measured than the best one. Speed varies with the room and the time of day, so if your work depends on the connection, tell us before booking and we will confirm the speed in the room you will be using. For monthly stays, the internet is included in the rent.
Is there air conditioning and heating?
Yes, both houses have air conditioning and heating, so they are comfortable both in the hot summer and on cooler days. The Main House also has an old fireplace with a wood stove in the living room.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is between 15:00 and 21:00. Check-out is by 11:00. If you need a different time, just talk to us and we will try to arrange it.
Is it suitable for families with children?
Yes. The Main House welcomes families and groups of up to eight people, with three bedrooms and a large garden. For specific needs, such as a cot, just ask when you book.
Is there free parking?
Yes, there is private, free parking right by the house, with an accessible space.
How many people can it sleep?
The Main House sleeps up to eight people (three bedrooms, seven beds, three bathrooms). The Small House is for couples: a maximum of two people, children included, in an open-plan space of about 30 m² with a double bed. For monthly rentals, the Main House takes up to six people.
Is the kitchen equipped?
Yes. The kitchen has a fridge, oven, microwave, coffee machine, electric kettle and a dining table. It has everything you need to prepare meals at your own pace.
How do I pay for my booking?
Your booking is confirmed with a 50% deposit of the total amount, paid by bank transfer. The remaining 50% is paid at check-in, on arrival. Simple, with no surprises.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made more than 30 days before arrival receive a full refund of the deposit. Within 30 days of arrival, the 50% deposit is non-refundable.
Is a security deposit required?
No, we do not ask for a security deposit. We simply ask that you treat the house with the same care we give it; serious damage caused by negligence is charged to the guest who made the booking.
Are the houses open all year?
The Small House is open from 1 June to 15 September, with a minimum stay of two nights, and closes in winter. The Main House is open all year: by the night in summer, with a minimum of six nights, and by the night the rest of the year too, with availability on request. From October to May it can also be rented by the month, for anyone who wants the house for a season.
