The house is at Casal da Igreja, in Mouriscas, in the municipality of Abrantes, in the Ribatejo. Remote enough to be quiet, close enough to everything worth seeing in the Médio Tejo.
River beaches on the Tagus and the Zêzere
The closest to the house is Praia Fluvial de Ortiga, in Mação, on the Belver dam reservoir. Then come Alamal, on the Tagus, and Aldeia do Mato and Fontes, both on the Zêzere, on the Castelo de Bode reservoir.

Castelo de Bode, by boat
The Castelo de Bode reservoir is one of the largest freshwater reserves in Europe. You can take it in by boat, by kayak or on a stand-up paddleboard, and it makes the finest day out in the area.
Abrantes, thirteen minutes away
The castle of Abrantes has a viewpoint over the Tagus that is worth the climb. There is also the historic garden and Palha de Abrantes, the local convent sweet.
Olive oil and wine from the region
The Tagus is olive oil and wine country, and there are producers nearby who welcome visitors and run tastings. It is not something we run: it belongs to the region, and it is worth booking directly with the organisers.
